Edward L. Kick is a Professor in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at North Carolina State University. He received his BA in Sociology at the University of Wisconsin and his Ph.D. in Sociology from Indiana University. He has served as Department Head or Chair at three universities, including North Carolina State. He joined several others from Sociology and moved to CALS and the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ARE) in the not too distant past. He now conducts research and teaching that brings ARE and Sociology together. His interdisciplinary work focuses on the dynamics of the global system, national eco-systems, multiple types of national capital (human, social, economic, political, infrastructural), how they together impact the components of agricultural production and distribution, and how all these linked factors determine national food security and the environment. He also examines environmental hazards and community building.
